BSF Sub-Inspector Imteyaz Lived and Died for India

Patna: Mohammad Imteyaz, a Border Security Force (BSF) Sub-Inspector from Narayanpur village under Garkha block in Saran district, Bihar, lived a life of unwavering dedication to India. On May 10, 2025, during ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the RS Pura sector of Jammu, Imteyaz made the supreme sacrifice, succumbing to injuries from cross-border shelling by Pakistan. His loss has left an irreplaceable void in his family and community, where he was a beacon of inspiration.

Mohammad Imteyaz’s sacrifice embodies courage, duty, and patriotism. His love for his village, where he celebrated every Eid with joy, and his commitment to the nation will inspire generations. Narayanpur and India will forever honour this brave son who laid down his life for the country.

Fifty-six years Imteyaz’s passion for the armed forces was evident from childhood. Joining the BSF in 1987, he followed his dream and inspired others, including his brother Mohammad Mustafa, also a BSF member. Known for mentoring local youth aspiring to serve the nation, Imteyaz’s legacy as a guide and motivator endures.

Imteyaz leaves behind a proud family. His elder son, Imran Raza, a biomedical engineering graduate, works at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and expressed pride in his father’s sacrifice. His younger son, Imdad Raza, is studying in Delhi while preparing for the UPSC civil services examination, calling his father his “superhero.” Imteyaz’s wife, a homemaker, and his two married daughters mourn the loss of a devoted family man.

The BSF honoured Imteyaz’s sacrifice on X, stating, “DG BSF and All Ranks salute the supreme sacrifice made by BSF Sub Inspector Md Imteyaz in service to the Nation on 10 May 2025 during cross border firing by Pakistan along the International Boundary in R S Pura area, Jammu. Prahari Pariwar stands firm with the bereaved family in this trying time.”

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited Narayanpur village and paid his respects by offering flowers at the portrait of martyred BSF Sub-Inspector. Paying tribute, Kumar wrote on X, “His (Imtiaz’s) martyrdom will be remembered by the country forever. I am deeply saddened by this incident.”

Earlier, Nitish Kumar and his two deputies Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were criticised for not attending the guard of honour ceremony when Imteyaz’s body was brought to Patna airport. The Bihar government also drew flak for not providing government vehicles to his sons who could be seen pushing the trolley on their own in a viral video.

However, Nitish Kumar went to Imteyaz’s house next day and consoled the martyr’s sons, Mohammad Imran Raza and Mohammad Imdad Raza, and other family members. On behalf of the state government, he handed over a cheque of ₹50 lakh as an honorarium to the family of martyr Mohammad Imteyaz.

Additionally, he announced that one of the martyr’s sons would be provided a government job based on eligibility. A two-kilometre rural road from Chintamanganj bridge to Rahmpur market would be named after martyr Mohammad Imteyaz. A “Shaheed Dwar” (Martyr’s Gate) would be constructed at the entrance of Jalal-Basant Panchayat. A new health sub-centre would be established in Narayanpur village, and a memorial in the name of martyr Mohammad Imteyaz would also be built.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Minority Welfare Minister Jama Khan, Science, Technology, and Technical Education Minister Sumit Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, Development Commissioner Pratyay Amrit, DGP Vinay Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, Secretary to the Chief Minister Anupam Kumar, Commissioner of Saran Division Gopal Meena, Deputy IGP for Saran Range Nilesh Kumar, District Magistrate of Saran Aman Samir, SP Dr. Kumar Ashish, along with other senior officials.

Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary wrote on his Facebook page, “The news of getting martyrdom by BSF sub-inspect or Mohammad Imteyaz ji while fighting the enemies for Maan Bharati is tragic. My condolences to his family at this moment of great sorrow. His services to the county and dedication will inspire the young generation and his supreme sacrifice to the nation’s safety will be remembered always.”

Leader of opposition and senior RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav wrote on X, “Brave warrior Mohammad Imteyaz sahib, son of Chhapra, Bihar was martyred in firing while giving a befitting reply to enemy country Pakistan on the international border in RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir.” He added, “The country and Bihar are proud of his sacrifice and martyrdom.”
