New Delhi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has strongly condemned the arrest of Prof. Ali Khan Mahmudabad, stating that the action reflects a disturbing trend of intolerance towards dissenting voices, particularly from minority communities.
Malik Motasim Khan, Vice President of JIH, issued a statement denouncing the arrest, emphasizing that Prof. Mahmudabad’s social media post merely criticised extremism and called for justice. “His post was free from any anti-social, anti-national, or misogynistic content. He is being targeted for speaking out against injustices within the country,” said Khan.
JIH asserted that the charges against Prof. Mahmudabad are baseless and politically motivated. The statement further highlighted that over 1,000 academics, civil society members, and human rights organisations have expressed outrage at the arrest, demanding that all fabricated accusations be withdrawn.
“We demand the immediate release of Prof. Ali Khan Mahmudabad and urge authorities to uphold the values of free expression and democratic dissent,” added the JIH Vice President.
