Uttarakhand Madrasas to Include Operation Sindoor in Curriculum

In a significant move, the Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Board has announced that Operation Sindoor, a recent military action by the Indian Army, will be added to the madrasa curriculum. The announcement was made on May 20 by Board President Mufti Shamoon Qasmi, following a meeting between Muslim community leaders and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, reported the New Indian Express.
Mufti Qasmi stated, “We want our students to learn about the bravery and strategic excellence of the Indian Armed Forces during Operation Sindoor. This initiative will instil a sense of national pride and awareness among young minds while highlighting that the operation was carried out without civilian casualties.”
Currently, Uttarakhand is home to approximately 451 madrasas, with over 50,000 enrolled students.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 by the Indian Army in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. The mission targeted nine terrorist launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including sites linked to top terror figures Maulana Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed.
The inclusion of Operation Sindoor in madrasa education is being viewed as a step towards integrating mainstream national narratives into minority education systems, fostering unity and national consciousness.
