Police Get Custody of Two Youngsters in Vizianagaram Explosives Case

Vizianagaram: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Vizianagaram has granted one-week custody of two accused, Siraj-Ur-Rehman and Syed Sameer, to the Vizianagaram Two Town Police in connection with an alleged terror conspiracy case, as per a report by the Times of India.
It may be recalled that 29-year-old engineering graduate Siraj-Ur-Rehman, a native of Vizianagaram town, and 28-year-old Syed Sameer, a native of Secunderabad, were arrested by the Vizianagaram district police for allegedly making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and possessing explosive materials. Both are currently lodged in the central prison in Vizag city following their judicial remand for 14 days.
A senior police officer stated that a petition was filed in court seeking 10 days’ police custody to continue investigations in the major case. The court granted seven days’ custody on Thursday night.
Siraj and Syed Sameer have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act, and various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police, the custody is crucial to uncover alleged links with other individuals, as the duo was reportedly in contact with a handler operating from a Middle Eastern country over the past year through social media accounts. The police also aim to determine the exact plans of Siraj and Syed during this custody period.
