Justice K.N. Basha to Head Panel on Prevention of Dangerous Activities in TN

Former Judge of Madras High Court, Justice Kamaluddin Nazeerulla Basha (K.N. Basha) is to head the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Cyber law offenders, Drug-offenders, Forest-offenders, Goondas, Immoral Traffic offenders, Sand-offenders, Sexual-offenders, Slum-grabbers. Passing a G.O. to this effect, the Tamil Nadu Government named him as chairman along with two members for the advisory board.

It may be noted that Justice K.N. Basha post retirement served as chairman for Intellectual Property Appellate Board, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India in August 2013 for a 3-year period and relinquished office on 13.05.2016. As of now, he is actively practising in the Supreme Court as a Senior Advocate and is involved in mediation and arbitration work as Mediator/ Arbitrator/ Neutral in very high-profile cases of commercial conflicts.

Notably, K.N. Basha started legal practice in 1976 at Madras High Court and other subordinate courts in Tamil Nadu both on Civil and Criminal sides. He was designated as Senior Advocate by Madras High Court in 2005. He was appointed as Judge of Madras High Court on 10.12.2005 and he demitted office on 13.05.2013. Interestingly, he is the son of S.M. Kamaluddin, former District and Sessions Judge besides member, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).

Besides, K.N. Basha as chairman, two members – retired High Court judges Justice Aruna Jagadeesan and Justice S Ananthi will deal with the issues related to Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities as Advisory Board members with headquarters in Madurai and will have jurisdiction to 20 districts – Madurai, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Tenkasi, Ariyalur, Coimbatore, Nagapattinam,Perambalur, Tirupur and Tiruvarur in Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu Government through a bill amended the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act 1982 in 2022.
