Hyderabad : The city is set to witness a massive peaceful protest this afternoon at Dharna Chowk, Lower Tank Bund, as the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), in coordination with major Muslim organizations across Telangana, prepares to observe ‘Waqf Day’ on Sunday, June 1, reported the Munisif. The protest is scheduled from 2 PM to 5 PM and aims to raise awareness about the protection and preservation of Waqf properties across the country.
This united initiative follows a series of consultative meetings held in Hyderabad, where prominent Islamic scholars, AIMPLB members, and representatives from various Muslim organizations decided to consolidate all efforts into a single coordinated movement under AIMPLB’s leadership. The protest will emphasize the urgent need for governmental recognition of June 1 as the official ‘Waqf Day’ and for stronger measures to safeguard Muslim religious and heritage assets.
Leading figures expected to participate include Maulana Mufti Khaleel Ahmed, Chief of Jamia Nizamia; Maulana Dr. Mateen Qadri, AIMPLB member; Ziauddin Nayyar, Dr. Mohammad Mushtaq Ali, Maulana Hyder Nisar Agha, Maulana Masood Mushtahidi, and Ms. Hafza Akhtar, representing women on the Board.
Other notable supporters include Mufti Mahmood Zubair of Jamiat Ulema, Dr. Ali Hussaini of Qadri Chaman, Moulana Syed Ahmed Ul Hussaini Sayeed Ul Qadri of Qadria International, Muneeruddin Mukhtar of the United Muslim Forum, and Mufti Rafiuddin Rashadi of the Shariat and Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Institutions. Youth representatives from AIMIM and Tablighi Jamaat have also pledged their participation.
Organizers have clarified that Sunday, June 1, is the official date for the protest and urged the public not to be misled by conflicting announcements about alternate dates. The AIMPLB has appealed to Muslims across the state to join the protest in large numbers and demonstrate unity in defense of Waqf institutions and Muslim heritage.
The protest is also expected to witness interfaith participation, with members of Christian, Hindu, and Sikh communities showing solidarity with the cause. A strong turnout of women, youth, and elders is anticipated.
With Hyderabad gearing up for this significant event, all eyes are on Dharna Chowk this afternoon as the community gathers in peaceful resistance to protect its legacy.
