Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] along with Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), All Jamaath Federation, various other Muslim organisations including Muslim League, and political parties staged a protest at Ukkadam, condemning Israel’s genocidal attacks on Palestinians despite the International Court of Justice’s order for ceasefire. The war-torn Gaza Strip is witnessing the world’s worst hunger crises, according to WHO.

The protest was led by CPI(M) District Executive Committee members S Krishnamoorthy, KS Kanagaraj, V Ramamoorthy besides All Jamaath Federation executives, JIH Coimbatore Secretary Abdul Hakkim, JIH Women’s Wing Secretary Sharmila, CPI(M) executive committee members K Ajay Kumar, VR Palanisamy, N Arumugam, Aruchamay and all district and taluk level functionaries. It witnessed participation from around 300 people.

JIH Coimbatore Secretary Abdul Hakkim addressed the demonstration, severely condemning the US supporting Israel’s inhuman attack on Palestinian people, citing reports that over 62,000 victims succumbed to injuries in the deadly attack while starvation is at the core in Gaza with people making a beeline to food distribution centres located in the vicinity. Mr. Abdul Hakkim also highlighted the need for global action and justice for Palestinians.

Meanwhile, the International Committee of Red Cross chief Mirjana Spoljaric stated that it has become worse than hell on earth and added that Palestinians have been stripped of human dignity and international humanitarian law is being hollowed out. Town Secretary PC Murugan extended a vote of thanks.

The protest served as a unified call for peace, the end of aggression, and support for human rights in Palestine.
