Hyderabad — Communal tensions flared in Hyderabad a day after Eid-ul-Adha, as a vehicle transporting animal waste was torched in the Jalpally area, and several related incidents were reported across the city, reported the Siasat.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on June 8, when a DCM vehicle carrying animal remains to a company in Jalpally was intercepted by a group of unidentified individuals near Wambay Colony. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers chanted “Jai Shri Ram” while vandalizing the vehicle and assaulting its driver and another occupant. The vehicle was subsequently set ablaze.
Soon after the incident, police from Jalpally station arrived at the scene. However, they were met with stone-pelting by a large group of miscreants, prompting law enforcement to resort to lathicharge. Additional reinforcements were dispatched to regain control of the situation.
In a related incident in Attapur, a group of individuals reportedly stopped a vehicle transporting two bulls and attacked its driver. The episode sparked protests by members of a specific community, resulting in both groups raising provocative slogans, intensifying tensions in the Attapur and Kishanbagh areas.
Meanwhile, a separate protest erupted outside the Musheerabad Police Station over an inflammatory social media post that allegedly targeted Muslims and the Eid-ul-Adha ritual of animal sacrifice. The post was condemned by local residents, who claimed it contained hate speech and incited religious tensions.
In light of these incidents, Hyderabad police have been placed on high alert across the city to prevent further escalation.
These communal flashpoints have once again brought attention to the rising instances of vigilante attacks, religious intolerance, and the fragile state of inter-community harmony during religious festivals in India.
