65-Year-Old Madarsa Demolished in Shravasti, Uttar Pradesh

Shravasti, Uttar Pradesh – A 65-year-old madarsa, Madarsa Islamia Arabia Anwarul Uloom Bangai, was demolished in Fatehpur Bangai village under Jamunha tehsil. The action was reportedly carried out on the instructions of the local tehsildar, citing that the madarsa was allegedly built on government land belonging to the village panchayat, as per a report by the Deccan Herald.
Established in 1960, the madarsa had been functioning for over six decades, serving as a religious and educational institution for the Muslim population in the region.
This demolition is not an isolated incident. According to reports, over 20 madarsas in Shravasti have already been razed by local authorities in recent months under the claim of being “illegal constructions.”
Out of the total 297 madarsas operating in Shravasti district, only 105 have official recognition from the Uttar Pradesh Madarsa Board, officials stated. The remaining are either unregistered or operating independently.
Community leaders and activists have expressed concern over the increasing number of demolitions targeting Islamic institutions, calling for transparency, due process, and respect for constitutional rights.
The incident has once again highlighted the ongoing tensions surrounding religious institutions and land ownership claims in various parts of Uttar Pradesh.
