New Delhi – The Indian National Congress strongly criticized the Modi-led government for its silence over the recent United States airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, describing the attack as a dangerous provocation that could escalate into a broader regional conflict, reported the Siasat.
Congress leader and communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh said that US President Donald Trump’s decision to launch strikes on Iran “makes a mockery” of his own earlier appeals for continuing dialogue with Tehran.
“The Indian National Congress reiterates the absolute essentiality of immediate diplomacy and dialogue with Iran,” Ramesh stated, calling upon the Indian government to show “greater moral courage” than it has so far demonstrated.
Ramesh also condemned the Modi government for its failure to criticize the Israeli bombings and assassinations, adding that its silence on the “genocide” of Palestinians in Gaza is deafening.
The US airstrikes reportedly targeted three major Iranian nuclear sites — Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan — in what experts fear could draw the entire region deeper into conflict. These actions followed intensified military engagement between Israel and Iran.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and expressed India’s “deep concern,” calling for an immediate de-escalation through “dialogue and diplomacy.”
Global leaders and international blocs have echoed calls for restraint, warning that the situation could spiral out of control if diplomatic efforts are not urgently prioritized.
