China Reaffirms Support for Iran’s Sovereignty and Security Amid Ceasefire Efforts

Beijing/Tehran : Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has reiterated Beijing’s strong support for Iran’s right to safeguard its national sovereignty and security. His statement came during a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday, as reported by state-run Xinhua News Agency.
Wang Yi stated that China supports Iran in defending its sovereignty and ensuring its national security. He emphasized the importance of achieving a “genuine ceasefire” in the region and restoring normal life for civilians affected by the recent conflict between Iran and Israel.
This diplomatic exchange follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire after nearly two weeks of escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel. China has expressed concern over the crisis and is urging for de-escalation in the Middle East.
Wang further noted that China encourages the United Nations Security Council to actively uphold its responsibility in maintaining global peace and security. He also stressed Beijing’s commitment to promoting a political resolution and stability in the region.
In response, Araghchi condemned recent Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling them clear violations of international law. He stated that such actions necessitate a defensive response from Iran. The Iranian diplomat also welcomed China’s constructive role in the region and expressed Tehran’s willingness to engage in deeper coordination with Beijing.
He added that meaningful negotiations could only begin once Israeli aggression comes to an end.
The phone call highlights China’s growing diplomatic engagement in West Asia and its positioning as a stabilizing force amid rising regional tensions.
