Self-styled ‘Yoga Guru’ Arrested in Chhattisgarh for Possession of Nearly 2 Kg Ganja

Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh – A self-proclaimed yoga guru, who recently returned from Goa and established an ashram in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district, has been arrested for allegedly possessing nearly 2 kilograms of ganja. Authorities claim that the ashram was being used for drug trafficking, reported the Hindu.
The accused, identified as 45-year-old Tarun Kranti Agrawal alias Sonu, had reportedly spent over a decade in Goa running an organisation called ‘Kranti,’ where he taught yoga to both Indians and foreign nationals. Upon returning, he purchased a 5-acre plot of land near the Pragya Giri hills, just 2 km from the famous Dongargarh temple—a popular pilgrimage site—and began constructing an ashram.
According to police, complaints emerged earlier this month suggesting that drugs were being distributed to minors and tourists within the premises. There were also reports of young men roaming the campus with knives.
“Based on information about illegal activities within the ashram premises, we conducted a raid on June 25,” said Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg. “During the operation, 1.993 kilograms of ganja was recovered from the accused. He has been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and sent to judicial custody. We suspect he was selling drugs inside the premises.”
Police said Agrawal’s parents are local businesspersons, and he had left his home about two decades ago. During initial questioning, Agrawal reportedly claimed to have travelled to several countries and operated around 10 NGOs. Authorities have begun the process of seizing his passport and are investigating the activities of the mentioned NGOs.
Officials believe further details may emerge as the investigation progresses, including possible links to broader drug networks or misuse of foreign fund
