Tehran – Iran has strongly condemned recent remarks by United States President Donald Trump targeting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, calling them “disrespectful and unacceptable”. The Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, warned that such a tone would hinder any possibility of dialogue or understanding between the two nations, reported the Hindu.
Araghchi stated via social media that if President Trump truly seeks to reach an agreement with Iran, he must change his approach. “If President Trump genuinely wishes to engage with the Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, he must abandon his disrespectful and offensive language,” Araghchi wrote on X.
The minister further accused the US and its ally Israel of cowardice in the face of Iranian strength, stating, “The Israeli regime had no choice but to run to ‘Daddy’ to avoid being flattened by our missiles.” Araghchi emphasized that Iranians take pride in their independence and will not tolerate “threats and insults”.
The diplomatic exchange was triggered by comments made by Khamenei during a post-ceasefire address, where he claimed that the Islamic Republic had “won” the recent conflict with Israel, describing it as “a severe slap to the face of America.” He also accused the US President of distorting facts, saying Trump “exaggerated events in unusual ways” for political gain.
In a fiery response posted on Truth Social, Trump claimed, “I SAVED HIM FROM A VERY UGLY AND IGNOMINIOUS DEATH,” alleging that he had prevented a massive Israeli airstrike that could have led to extensive Iranian casualties and the death of Khamenei himself.
Trump questioned the Iranian leader’s victory claims, calling them “blatantly false” and suggesting that as a religious figure, Khamenei should not lie. He further claimed that Iran’s nuclear sites had been destroyed and that the country was facing a collapsed economy, a shattered military, and widespread devastation.
Trump also revealed that he had been working toward lifting US sanctions on Iran in recent days, which he said could have helped the country recover swiftly. However, he declared he had halted all such efforts following Khamenei’s statements filled with “anger, hatred, and disgust.”
“Instead of gratitude or reconciliation, Iran responds with hostility,” Trump said, warning that Iran’s future remains bleak unless it chooses to rejoin the global order. “They are always so angry, hostile, and unhappy, and look at what it has gotten them – a burned-out, blown-up country,” he concluded.
The escalating rhetoric between Washington and Tehran comes in the aftermath of a brief but intense military conflict between Israel and Iran, which has left the region on edge and the global diplomatic community watching with concern.
