Patna : RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav made a bold statement at the ‘Waqf Bachao, Samvidhan Bachao’ rally held at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan, asserting that the Waqf Amendment Act will be “thrown into the dustbin” if the Mahagathbandhan comes to power in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, reported the Siasat.
The rally witnessed widespread participation from leaders of various political parties, many of whom wore black bands in protest. Tejashwi, currently the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, emphasized that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), led by Lalu Prasad Yadav, has consistently opposed the Waqf Amendment Act both inside and outside Parliament.
“Our MPs have opposed the law in both Houses, and we have taken the matter to court. Let my Muslim brothers and sisters remember—by November, the NDA will be out, and a pro-poor, inclusive government will take charge and scrap this anti-minority law,” said Tejashwi, who is spearheading the INDIA bloc campaign for the polls.
He further warned the public to stay alert against alleged attempts by the Election Commission to manipulate the voters’ list in favour of the BJP, describing it as a conspiracy to deny people their voting rights.
Tejashwi also reminded the audience of India’s pluralistic heritage, saying, “Independence was earned through the sacrifices of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians. No one has the right to treat this country as their personal property.”
Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Salman Khurshid also attended the event and expressed solidarity with the cause.
The rally echoed with slogans rejecting the Waqf Amendment Act, which many Muslim leaders and civil rights groups claim is an assault on constitutional rights and the autonomy of Waqf institutions.
