Aligarh: The Department of Community Medicine, J.N. Medical College and Hospital, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), observed National Doctors’ Day with a series of engaging and creative student-led activities under the theme “Behind the Mask: Who Heals the Healers?”

Held in the Museum and Seminar Hall of the department, the event brought together undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and Master of Public Health (MPH) students, as well as faculty members and residents, to honour the invaluable contributions of doctors to society. The celebration was organised under the leadership of Prof. Uzma Eram, Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine.
A range of interactive competitions, including T-shirt Painting, Pictionary, and Just a Minute (JAM) sessions, were conducted to encourage creative expression around the theme of the day. The programme was formally introduced by MBBS students Gaurav Raizada, Mohammad Asharul Huda, and Ahmad Ali Siddiqui, who welcomed the attendees and set the tone by introducing the week’s theme.

In the T-shirt Painting, under the UG category, Mariyam and Aamra shared the first prize, while Aalima Sartaj received the second prize. The third prize was shared by Arham and Nooh.
In the Pictionary, Pranav and Tanishk shared the first prize, Shifa and Anika got the second prize while Aitesam and Kaifreen received the third prize. In the JAM competition, Aryan Singh and Anika stood first and second, while Arham and Pranav shared the third prize.
Among the PG students, Dr. Sohaib and Dr. Tahira secured the first prize in the T-shirt painting competition, while Dr. Riya and Dr. Mubah took second place. In the Pictionary competition, the team of Dr. Riya and Dr. Prabhakaran claimed the second position.
A beautifully crafted Rangoli by UG students added to the celebratory spirit and served as a symbolic tribute to the contributions of medical professionals.
The organising team, comprising Dr. Nema Usman, Dr. Sameena Ahmad, and Dr. Danish Kamal, worked diligently under the guidance of Prof. Uzma Eram, the Organising Chairperson to ensure the smooth execution of the event. Prof. Mohammad Athar Ansari served as the Organising Secretary.
The event was graced by distinguished faculty members and dignitaries, including Prof. Shah Mohammad Abaas Waseem, Dr. M. Salman Shah, Dr. Nema Usman, Dr. Sameena Ahmad, Dr. Suboohi Afzal, Senior Residents Dr. Sana Nawab, Dr. Karthika P, Dr. Iram Abid, and Dr. Danish Kamal.
Certificates were distributed to all winners and judges, followed by a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Uzma Eram, who praised the students for their creativity and commitment, and expressed gratitude to faculty members, residents, and students for making the event a success.
This celebration not only honoured the medical fraternity but also emphasized the need to recognise the mental and emotional challenges faced by healthcare providers, thereby echoing the core message of this year’s theme.
