CPI(M) Launches ‘Digital Protest’ in Solidarity with Palestine, Urges Citizens to Disconnect for Gaza

Thiruvananthapuram : In a powerful expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has initiated a unique form of protest titled ‘Digital Protest’ against Israel’s continued aggression in Gaza, reported the India Today.
CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby announced the launch of this peaceful protest, urging citizens to switch off their mobile phones, computers, and other digital devices every night from 9:00 pm to 9:30 pm for a full week, starting from Monday night.
“This is a symbolic yet meaningful act of resistance—a digital fast,” Baby stated. “By disconnecting from the digital world for 30 minutes a day, we aim to raise our collective voice against the genocide in Gaza and show that people far away still care deeply about justice.”
He emphasized that this initiative is a modern form of satyagraha, tailored to the realities of today’s digital era. The CPI(M) is officially backing the protest and has invited participation from individuals, institutions, and civil society groups across the country.
Baby also cited a recent report by Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Palestine, which highlighted the involvement of major tech companies—such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and IBM—in operations that allegedly profit from the ongoing violence in Gaza. “This protest becomes even more meaningful in light of such revelations,” he added.
In his address, Baby sharply criticized the United States for its continued support to Israel. “Despite the killing of innocent civilians, many of whom are women and children, the U.S. government remains complicit by backing Israel instead of intervening to stop the bloodshed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the hashtag #SilenceForGaza is gaining momentum on social media as many users pledge to join the digital blackout, further amplifying the protest.
This initiative comes at a time when international outrage over Israel’s operations in Gaza continues to mount, with growing calls for immediate ceasefire and humanitarian relief.
