Haridwar, Uttarakhand – A Muslim family traveling in their car was reportedly attacked and their vehicle vandalised by a group of Kanwariyas (Hindu pilgrims) in Haridwar’s Manglaur area following a minor road collision, reported the Madhyamam.
A viral video from the scene shows a large group surrounding the vehicle, forcibly dragging out the occupants—including women and children—and assaulting the driver. The footage captures the pilgrims chasing the driver and inflicting severe damage to the car before moving on .
According to the report, the incident began after the car accidentally made contact with the pilgrims walking along the road. The altercation escalated upon identification of the driver as a member of the Muslim community, leading to what witnesses call a brutal mob attack .
The vehicle’s owner, Nazim, has since filed a complaint. Haridwar Police have registered an FIR against eight individuals named in the lodging of the case. The harassment of a family—particularly women and children—has drawn widespread public outrage and renewed calls for stern action against communal violence .
Activists and social media users have condemned the violence. One Instagram post emphasized: “Haridwar Police have registered an FIR… The incident has sparked outrage, with calls for action against communal violence” .
