EFLU Students’ Union Demands Reopening of Najeeb Ahmed Disappearance Case

Hyderabad : The Students’ Union of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) has strongly urged the authorities to reopen the investigation into the disappearance of Najeeb Ahmed, a student of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), who went missing in 2016, as per a report by the Times of India.

This call follows the decision of the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi on June 30, which accepted the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) closure report on the case. Najeeb Ahmed, an MSc Biotechnology student, went missing from his JNU hostel on October 15, 2016. The night before his disappearance, he was allegedly assaulted by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

In a statement issued on Monday, July 7, the EFLU Students’ Union expressed unwavering solidarity with Najeeb’s family and criticized the lack of progress in the investigation. “Despite being handled by top investigating agencies, the question ‘Where is Najeeb?’ remains unanswered. Shockingly, the ABVP members involved in the physical attack were not even interrogated,” the statement read.

Najeeb’s mother, Fathima Nafees, voiced her anguish once again, saying, “There are hundreds of Muslim youth jailed without committing any crime. Najeeb’s name would just add to that list. A Muslim life holds no value in India.”

The EFLU Students’ Union condemned what they termed as the “enforced disappearance” of Najeeb and demanded that the case be reopened and pursued with renewed seriousness.
