Coimbatore: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Tamil Nadu, a unique event titled “Meet the Journalists” – entirely organised and led by children – was successfully held at the Coimbatore Press Club today. The programme was conducted under the banner of Children Islamic Organisation (CIO), the children’s wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), as part of a nationwide plantation campaign themed “Hands in the Soil, Hearts in India!”
The event also aimed to promote social awareness and leadership among children, providing them with a platform to interact directly with media professionals. Organised by the Coimbatore chapter of CIO, the gathering received enthusiastic participation and commendation from both the press and the public.
The session was moderated by Ms. Zainab, Deputy Head of CIO Coimbatore District, who extended a warm welcome to the journalists and set the tone for the proceedings.
Ms. Nabeela Karam, President of CIO Coimbatore District, led the main interaction with journalists. In her address, she highlighted:
- The impactful educational and social initiatives carried out by CIO among children,
- The relevance and message behind the theme “Hands in the Soil, Hearts in India!”, and
- A detailed overview of the plantation programmes and activities planned across Coimbatore as part of the ongoing campaign.
Ms. Nabeela also responded to questions from journalists with clarity and confidence, while CIO children actively participated, expressing their views and demonstrating strong communication skills.
The event was well-received by members of the media and stood out as a remarkable opportunity to showcase children’s leadership potential and civic engagement. It not only facilitated meaningful dialogue but also emphasised the importance of nurturing informed and socially responsible young citizens.
