Bhatkal : In response to a surge in stray dog attacks across Bhatkal taluk, the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), Bhatkal Unit, has submitted a memorandum to the Tahsildar, demanding swift intervention to tackle the growing crisis that has left residents anxious and vulnerable, reported the Sahil Online.
The memorandum highlights that over the past several days, more than 15 individuals — including school children and elderly citizens — have reportedly been attacked by stray dogs in both residential neighborhoods and bustling market areas. The victims have been given anti-rabies vaccines, further intensifying the fear among the public, especially concerned parents.
Addressing the issue, SIO Media Secretary Mashaikh Talish emphasized the urgency of launching a sterilization drive to curb the stray dog population. He also proposed several other measures, including:
Immediate identification and relocation of aggressive dogs
Setting up a local helpline or reporting center for dog attack incidents
Collaboration between local Panchayats and the municipal council for regular monitoring
Timely administration of first aid and anti-rabies vaccines to victims
Talish added that the SIO is fully prepared to cooperate with local authorities to resolve the issue both humanely and lawfully.
A delegation comprising Zayaan Bangali, Mohammed Ghitreef Manvi, Sabiq Barmawar, Umar Abdul Azeez, and other SIO members accompanied the submission of the memorandum.
The recent spate of attacks has raised significant concerns in the community, with many urging the administration to treat the issue with the seriousness it deserves.
