Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has marked a major milestone in scientific innovation with the grant of a patent for a novel Anticancer Drug Formulation and a Process for the Preparation Thereof. The patent has been awarded to a distinguished team of researchers from the Department of Chemistry, including Prof. Farukh Arjmand, Dr. Zeenat Afshan, and Prof. Sartaj Tabassum.
This newly patented drug formulation is poised to be a potential breakthrough in cancer treatment. Designed to be both cost-effective and less toxic, the drug holds promise for improved patient accessibility and outcomes.
Prof. Farukh Arjmand, the lead inventor, is a renowned scientist in the fields of medicinal and bioinorganic chemistry. She has received numerous prestigious accolades including the CRSI Bronze Medal, Women Scientist Award (ISCB), and Best Researcher Award of AMU. With over 196 high-impact publications, more than 7,000 citations, and an h-index of 42, Prof. Arjmand has consistently made significant contributions to cancer research.
The co-inventors, Dr. Zeenat Afshan and Prof. Sartaj Tabassum, are also acclaimed scholars in coordination chemistry and drug development, whose expertise greatly enriched the formulation process.
