Makkah — At its headquarters in the holy city of Makkah, the Muslim World League (MWL) today unveiled a major package of digital Qur’anic initiatives aimed at expanding global access to Quranic recitation and education through modern technology. Overseen by Secretary-General Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, the event marked a pivotal step in MWL’s digital transformation strategy, reported the Saudi Gazette.
The launch included three major components:
1. First Coordination Forum for Global Digital Qur’anic Maqari, focussing on harmonising remote recitation and teaching platforms.
2. The rollout of a Digital Portal for the Global Electronic Maqra’a, serving as a unified hub for digital Qur’an readings.
3. The Formation of the Alliance (League) of Global Digital Qur’anic Platforms, the world’s first official body dedicated to digital Qur’anic recitation.
Dr. Al-Issa, also President of the Association of Muslim Scholars, emphasised that the digital shift is central to “strengthening the unity of the Muslim Ummah” and enhancing engagement with the holy Qur’an. He described the MWL as “a gift from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Islamic world,” expressing gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their unwavering support.
Representatives from nearly 50 global digital Qur’anic platforms took part in the forum’s four technical sessions, which addressed:
Best practices for issuing digital ijazah (recitation certification),
Development of remote Qur’anic educational tools,
Coordination of international regulatory standards, and
Innovations in ed-tech applications for teaching the Qur’an.
Indonesian delegate Dr. Ahmed Jamil praised the MWL’s scientific and technical vision for linking the world to the Qur’an, saying it enables global learning “according to established principles.”
At the event’s close, delegates unanimously endorsed a resolution to formally launch the Global Association of Digital Qur’anic Platforms under MWL’s auspices—to oversee digital recitation standards and training worldwide.
