Fatehpur witnessed communal tension on Monday after members of a Hindu organisation vandalised a historic tomb. They alleged it was built over an ancient temple. The incident took place at the mausoleum of Nawab Abdus Samad in Sadar tehsil. It prompted a major law-and-order response from local authorities.
The controversy began after the district president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed the site was originally a temple. He said it was dedicated to Thakur ji and Lord Shiva. He pointed to symbols like a lotus flower and a trident found within the structure as alleged proof of its Hindu roots.
Following his remarks, members of the Hindu organisation entered the site. They vandalised parts of the area surrounding the tomb. The group also plans to hold a pooja at the disputed location. This has increased fears of further unrest.
In response, the district administration deployed heavy police forces. This includes the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). Barricades have been placed around the tomb to stop escalation. Officials are calling for restraint from both communities.
Government records list the site under Khasra number 753. It is recorded as “National Property Maqbara Mangi.” It is a protected monument. However, the new religious claims have triggered communal sensitivities.
Authorities are monitoring the situation. Talks are underway to ensure peace and adherence to heritage laws.
