NCERT Adds Operation Sindoor Modules in School Curriculum Highlighting Muslim Response to Pahalgam Attack and India’s Action

New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced two new modules on Operation Sindoor for students of classes 3 to 12. The modules detail the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which, according to official accounts, was carried out on the “direct orders” of Pakistan’s military and political leadership.
The modules, titled “Operation Sindoor—A Saga of Valour” for classes 3 to 8 and “Operation Sindoor—A Mission of Honour and Bravery” for classes 9 to 12, aim to instill awareness among students about India’s military preparedness, national unity, and the sacrifices of security personnel.
The supplementary material explains how Indian Muslims across cities such as Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Bhopal openly condemned the Pahalgam attack, with many wearing black armbands as a mark of protest. In Kashmir, shopkeepers closed their establishments, while villagers near the border demanded strict action and voiced support for the Armed Forces. “Their response breaks stereotypes and shows the real voice of peace-loving people,” the module notes.
According to the NCERT content, India retaliated with precision missile and air strikes on May 7, targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Seven camps were destroyed by the Indian Army, while the Air Force hit key Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed bases in Muridke and Bahawalpur. The modules highlight that all targets were carefully verified to ensure no civilian casualties.
The content also places Operation Sindoor in historical context, recalling earlier responses to cross-border aggression, including the Balakot air strikes in 2019 after the Pulwama attack, and India’s military resilience in the wars of 1947, 1965, 1971, and 1999.
Emphasising modern military strength, the modules mention India’s advanced air defence systems such as the S-400, which successfully neutralised enemy aircraft and drones during the operation. The name Operation Sindoor was chosen as a tribute to the widows of the victims, symbolising solidarity, empathy, and national resolve.
Calling it “a triumph of bravery, strategy, and innovation,” NCERT said the modules were designed to inspire students with stories of courage while reinforcing the message that India will not tolerate terrorism.
