Munger: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav met prominent Muslim religious figures in Munger and promised to defend minority rights in the upcoming Bihar elections. Both leaders stressed that Waqf properties and Muslim voters would receive legal and political safeguards if their alliance came to power.
The meeting was held at Khanqah Rahmani and attended by Maulana Ahmad Wali Faisal Rahmani, Maulana Rizwan Islahi of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Alhaj Farid of Idara-e-Shariah, along with representatives from Jamiat Ulama, Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadees, Jamia Rahmani, and Tanzeem-e-Imam-o-Khutaba. Community leaders raised two major concerns: the deletion of Muslim names from voter lists and the impact of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025.
Several participants alleged that the Special Intensive Revision process had led to widespread removal of Muslim names from electoral rolls. They warned this would weaken political participation of the community if not addressed immediately.
The second concern was the new Waqf law. Leaders said the Act opened the door for state takeover of Waqf properties and undermined community control of religious assets. They demanded a clear commitment from opposition parties to roll back the legislation.
Tejashwi Yadav responded by stating that the Mahagathbandhan would repeal the Waqf law if voted to power. He called the Act unjust and accused the ruling government of targeting Muslim institutions. Rahul Gandhi supported the demand, assuring that minority rights and religious assets would be defended under a Congress-RJD alliance.
The Munger meeting showed rising political mobilization among Muslims in Bihar. Leaders demanded both restoration of voter rolls and protection of Waqf assets, signaling that minority rights will remain a central issue in the state elections.
