Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) on Friday launched the Madrasa Connect Program, a new initiative designed to enhance English communication skills of Urdu-medium students and help them integrate into mainstream education.
The program, launched in collaboration with the Shaheen Group of Institutions, aims to bridge the academic gap for madrasa students by offering structured language training.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor of MANUU, said the initiative reflects the University’s commitment to “reaching the unreached.” He highlighted the establishment of a new multimedia centre to expand digital learning and urged madrasas nationwide to participate. “This program can open pathways for international education,” he said, noting the global presence of MANUU alumni.
Dr. Abdul Qadeer, Director of the Shaheen Group, commended MANUU’s vision and suggested launching residential training programs for English teachers in partnership with the university.
Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar of MANUU, praised Dr. Qadeer’s efforts in building an educational ecosystem that has transformed the prospects of marginalized students.
Explaining the structure, Prof. Mohd. Razaullah Khan, Director of CDOE, said the program would be rolled out in three levels over six months—one, two, and three months respectively. “We are beginning with 100 madrasas in partnership with Shaheen Group and aim to expand to thousands more through MANUU’s Regional Centres,” he said.
Emphasizing the need for strong communication skills, Prof. Gulfishaan Habeeb, Dean of the School of Languages, said English proficiency is crucial for higher education and career advancement. On the occasion, specially designed student workbooks titled English for Beginners, prepared by Prof. Mohammed Abdul Sami Siddiqui and Ms. Ismath Fatima, were formally released.
The launch ceremony, held at the CPDUMT Auditorium, was hosted by Dr. Shaikh Wasim, and attended by faculty, students, and representatives from partnering institutions.
