Navi Mumbai: The Muslim community of Navi Mumbai has decided to postpone its annual Eid-Milad-un-Nabi procession from September 5 to September 8. The move is aimed at ensuring smooth Ganeshotsav celebrations and easing the burden on police deployment. This is the third consecutive year that the community has voluntarily rescheduled its procession to avoid a clash with the Ganesh idol immersions.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at Garib Nawaz Masjid in Turbhe Store, where Imams and leaders from several mosques and social organisations reached a consensus. The crescent moon of Rabi al-Awwal was sighted on August 24, confirming September 5 as Eid-Milad. However, community leaders felt that giving way to Ganeshotsav would reflect the Prophet’s message of peace and mutual respect.
Imam Mohammed Khaleelullah Subhani of Garib Nawaz Masjid explained, “Eid-Milad-un-Nabi is sacred for us, but our Prophet’s teachings guide us to show respect and ensure peaceful co-existence. Ganeshotsav is the most important festival for our Hindu brethren. We want them to celebrate without any interruption.” He also noted that the decision would prevent additional strain on the police and civic agencies during large gatherings.
The main Julus, marking the 1500th birth anniversary of the Prophet, will now be held on September 8. Rallies will begin from Garib Nawaz Masjid as well as Turbhe, Nerul-Seawoods, and Rabale-Digha, before converging at Peer Shah Dargah in Ghansoli.
