New Delhi: The Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Prof. Salim Engineer, has expressed profound grief and solidarity over the tragic landslide that struck the Vaishno Devi route in Katra, Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Prof. Engineer extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives near Ardhkuwari following the massive landslide triggered by heavy rains. The disaster has claimed multiple lives, injured several pilgrims, and left local residents in distress. Reports suggest that some individuals may still be trapped under the debris.
Prof. Engineer urged both the central and Jammu & Kashmir governments to ensure swift and coordinated action for immediate rescue, relief, and rehabilitation. He acknowledged the efforts of the NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army, J&K Police, and local volunteers for their prompt response, while stressing the need to intensify operations to save those missing and provide urgent medical treatment to the injured.
“The people of Katra must not feel alone in this tragedy. Citizens across the country should stand in solidarity with them during this difficult time,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of long-term preparedness, the JIH Vice President called for a comprehensive disaster management strategy with well-defined SOPs to minimize casualties during such natural calamities. He further appealed for a special relief package to support the long-term rehabilitation of affected families.
