Mumbai : The Ghousia Mosque and Madrasa, situated near the Ganpati pandal in Ambedkar Nagar, MIDC, Andheri (East), has been placed under round-the-clock surveillance by its trustees to maintain peace, safety, and communal harmony during sensitive occasions, as per a report by the Clarion India.
To enhance security, seven CCTV cameras have been installed both inside and outside the mosque. The system is already proving effective, especially during Friday prayers when gatherings at the mosque coincide with rituals at the nearby Ganpati pandal.
Committee member Iqbal Manyar stated, “Seven CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the mosque where prayers are offered. This helps us monitor daily activities, and during the Ganpati festival, it is particularly useful in maintaining order.”
Local police authorities have also stepped up vigilance, regularly patrolling the area to avoid any law-and-order issues. The combined efforts of mosque trustees and police have ensured smooth conduct of religious activities on both sides.
Alongside these security measures, the mosque is facing a prolonged legal tussle over its reconstruction. Trustees allege that the developer breached the original contract by submitting a new plan without consent, attempting to shift the mosque to an unsuitable location within a building. Since the COVID-19 lockdown, court hearings have stalled, leaving the dispute unresolved.
Manyar stressed that the committee plans to seek further legal advice to safeguard the mosque’s original site and secure the community’s rights.
By ensuring vigilant monitoring, legal recourse, and cooperation with authorities, the trustees aim to protect both the sanctity of the mosque and the broader atmosphere of communal harmony in the locality.
