Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Calls for Value-Based Governance and Justice

New Delhi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) President Sadatullah Hussaini has raised strong concerns on economic distress, natural disasters, evictions in Assam, and prolonged imprisonment of activists. He addressed these issues during the organization’s monthly press briefing.

On trade, Hussaini said US tariffs on Indian exports were hurting the economy and pushing poor workers into crisis. He cited data showing 15 lakh workers in Surat affected, carpets worth more than ₹2,500 crore stuck in Uttar Pradesh, and closure threats in Tirupur’s textile hubs. JIH proposed a ₹25,000 crore relief package, GST refunds, concessional loans, and interest waivers. He urged the government to expand exports to untapped markets such as Japan, South Korea, Germany, Mexico, and the UK.

He also addressed the flood devastation across several states. He blamed corruption in infrastructure projects for repeated failures of roads, bridges, and dams. He called for anti-corruption measures, stronger climate policies, disaster preparedness, and special support for farmers.

On Assam, Hussaini condemned the eviction of Muslims and tribal groups in districts like Golpada and Kamrup. Over 1,700 families have been displaced despite holding valid citizenship papers. He demanded an immediate halt to evictions, rehabilitation of victims, and protection of land rights.

Criticizing prolonged detention under UAPA, he said activists like Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam remain in jail without trial since 2020. He stressed that bail is the rule in law, and punishment without trial undermines democracy.

He also defended citizens carrying Palestinian flags, arguing it was an expression of solidarity consistent with India’s historical foreign policy.
