New Delhi: As Punjab reels under devastating floods that have submerged crops, destroyed homes, and displaced thousands, Muslims in Delhi’s Okhla have stepped forward to provide aid. Aam Aadmi Party legislator Amanatullah Khan has announced the setting up of relief camps across the area to collect essential supplies for affected families.
Relief centres have been established at Zakir Nagar Jama Masjid, Batla House Chowk near the Government School, Jamia Metro Station near Swatantrata Senani Fountain, and High Tension Khamba No. 1. These centres are serving as hubs for food, clothing, and medicine donations.
Khan appealed to residents of Jamia Nagar and nearby areas to contribute generously. He underlined Punjab’s long record of extending support to people across India during crises. He recalled how Punjabi communities had arranged langars during the Shaheen Bagh protest against the NRC and offered assistance during the Delhi riots.
“Punjab is in crisis today. Its people have always stood with us. It is our duty to stand with them now,” Khan said.
Residents welcomed the campaign. Abdul Rashid, a shopkeeper in Batla House, said, “Punjabis provided langar for us during the protests. Now we will do our part.” Shabana Begum, a local resident, added, “This is the time to prove that humanity comes first.”
With the camps already operational, community members are expected to donate food grains, clothing, medicines, and other essentials. Khan urged citizens to act quickly, stressing that unity and shared responsibility are the only way to meet such humanitarian challenges.
