Chandigarh: A delegation of Indian Muslims for Civil Rights (IMCR) visited flood-affected areas of Punjab on Sunday, expressing solidarity with victims and calling for urgent action from the authorities. The team was led by Maulana Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi, National General Secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, and Mohammad Adeeb, IMCR National President and former Rajya Sabha MP.
The delegation included Maj. Gen. Javed Iqbal (Retd.), National Vice President; Dr. Azam Baig, National General Secretary; Syed Masood Hussain, former Chairman of the Central Water Commission and IMCR Secretary General; Mohammad Khalid Khan, former Rajya Sabha Secretariat official and Empower India Trust Chairman; Anzarul Bari Rafiqui, National Coordinator; Mohammad Ilyas Saifi, Assistant Treasurer; and Col. Javed Jafri (Retd.).
During the visit, the delegation met community leaders, elders, and relief workers to review the situation. They emphasized not only immediate relief but also the importance of communal harmony and closer Sikh-Muslim relations.
Mohammad Adeeb accused the government of showing “double standards” by diverting aid to Bihar due to elections while ignoring Punjab. Sardar Daya Singh, President of the All India Peace Mission, also criticized the state and central governments, alleging deliberate negligence.
Maulana Mujaddidi assured Punjab’s Sikh community of the full support of Indian Muslims and pledged assistance in relief and rehabilitation. Justice (Retd.) Dr. Ranjit Singh of the Punjab & Haryana High Court condemned official apathy, blamed the authorities for preventable losses, and announced plans for legal action against the Centre.
The meeting at Central Singh Sabha Bhawan, Sector 28, Chandigarh, was attended by several prominent figures, including Dr. Pyare Lal Garg, Registrar of Faridkot Medical University, journalist Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Brigadier Kuldeep Singh, Gurumansal Government President Captain Singh, Shyam Singh, General Secretary Central Guru Singh Sabha Khushhal Singh, Rajvinder Singh Rahi, former police officer K.P. Singh, Major Harminder Singh, Professor Baba Singh, Punjab Minority Commission member, and activist Gurmeet Singh.
Participants agreed to hold similar joint solidarity meetings across India to strengthen communal brotherhood and ensure timely disaster response. The IMCR delegation also engaged with mosques, madrasas, dargahs, khanqahs, and social groups in Haryana, Mewat, Rajasthan, and Delhi to mobilize wider relief measures.
The initiative was jointly organized by IMCR and Central Guru Singh Sabha, Chandigarh, highlighting interfaith cooperation and national unity.
