RSP Lawmaker Asim Shah Quits Parliament, Joins Gen-Z Movement

Kathmandu: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Member of Parliament Asim Shah has resigned from the House of Representatives in protest against the government’s crackdown on the Gen-Z-led movement. In his resignation statement, Shah said he could not remain in office while the state used what he described as inhumane force on peaceful demonstrators.

Shah condemned the recent violence against protesters that left at least 19 people dead and hundreds injured. He questioned the government’s decision to defend state buildings at the cost of young lives. “Is the security of a building more valuable than our children’s lives?” he asked.

He noted that he had repeatedly raised youth concerns in Parliament but leaders in power dismissed them. He warned earlier that ignoring the voices of young citizens would lead to unrest. Shah wrote that the government’s actions violated civil rights and betrayed democratic values.

Explaining his departure, Shah said that remaining silent in Parliament while such violations continued would be a betrayal of his voters. He pledged to continue his political struggle outside the legislature. “I am now committed to taking to the streets, standing with the Gen-Z generation, with my people, and with the truth,” he said.

His resignation marks one of the strongest political statements against the government’s handling of the Gen-Z protests. It also highlights growing divides between state authorities and young citizens demanding accountability and reform.
