Imam’s Grandson Appeals for Aid to Punjab Flood Victims

Delhi: Syed Areeb Bukhari, grandson of Delhi Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam Syed Ahmad Bukhari, has appealed for urgent help for flood-hit Punjab. In a video message, he urged people to rise above religious divides and extend humanitarian support to those suffering.

“Punjab is facing a critical situation. Everyone should play their role and help the people of Punjab. I pray to Allah to show mercy on the state,” Bukhari said. He stressed that Islam does not teach people to discriminate while helping others. His statement, widely shared on social media, was described by many as a call for humanity.

The devastating floods in Punjab have killed more than 50 people and displaced thousands. Entire villages are submerged, leaving families without homes or livelihoods. Farmers have lost crops cultivated over months, while rural areas face severe shortages of food and essentials.

The Punjab government has announced financial assistance of 20,000 rupees for affected farmers. Rescue and relief operations are underway, with the National Disaster Response Force evacuating people to safer areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Punjab on September 9 to assess the situation and assured full central support.

Bukhari’s message comes at a time when citizens and organizations across India are mobilizing resources for Punjab. His call highlights the importance of unity and humanitarian duty during times of natural disaster.
