Muslim Youth League Holds ‘Save Democracy March’ in Delhi Against Voter Fraud and Evictions

Delhi: The Muslim Youth League (MYL) organised its national-level Loktantra Sanrakshan March at Jantar Mantar on Thursday, demanding action against alleged voter disenfranchisement and mass evictions targeting Muslims. Hundreds of young activists from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana joined the demonstration.

The march was inaugurated by E.T. Mohammed Basheer, national organising secretary of the Indian Union Muslim League and a five-time MP. He criticised the Election Commission’s move to expand the State Investigation Register (SIR) model from Bihar to a national level, calling it an attempt to marginalise vulnerable communities.

“The disenfranchisement of voters from marginalised groups and the forced evictions in Assam show the government’s anti-Muslim bias,” Basheer said. He praised the MYL for mobilising youth awareness on democratic rights.

Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi delivered the keynote address, linking the current struggle to earlier fights for justice. He credited Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Rights Yatra with energising movements against voter fraud across the country.

Other leaders who spoke at the march included IUML MP Harris Beeran and representatives from various youth organisations such as the Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha, Youth Congress, AIYF, AAP Youth, RYA, RYJD, MSF, and AIL. MYL president Sarfaraz Ahmad presided, while general secretary T.P. Ashraf Ali and other office bearers coordinated the program.

Organising secretary Adv. Shibu Meeran told Maktoob Media that the campaign will expand to Kishanganj in Bihar and other states in the coming days, with MYL vowing to continue its protests against voter suppression and forced evictions.
