Allahabad High Court Declines To Quash FIR Over Babri Masjid Facebook Post, Orders Speedy Trial

Lucknow— The Allahabad High Court has refused to quash criminal proceedings against a man accused of posting remarks on Facebook about the Babri Masjid, reported the Lawbeat.

The accused, identified as Mohd. Faiyyaz Mansuri, was booked after he allegedly wrote that “Babri Masjid will one day be rebuilt, just like Turkey’s Hagia Sophia Mosque.” Following the post, an FIR was registered against him on August 2025, citing charges of hurting religious sentiments.

A single-judge bench of Justice Ajay Bhanot observed that the case could not be dismissed at the pre-trial stage. However, the court directed that the trial proceedings be expedited to ensure a timely conclusion of the case.

The matter has attracted attention because of its reference to the long-disputed Babri Masjid site, which remains sensitive in India’s socio-political discourse.

Earlier this week, the High Court had also passed rulings in multiple cases concerning freedom of speech, family disputes under the UP Revenue Code, and other matters of public interest.
