Demand to Rename Madhubani Stadium After Shaheed Abdul Hamid

Madhubani: A demand has been raised to rename the Madhubani stadium after Param Vir Chakra awardee Shaheed Abdul Hamid. Dr. Mohammad Mehtab Alam, a member of the District Waqf Committee, has written to the Chairman of the Bihar State Minority Commission, Ghulam Rasool Baliyavi, urging the government to honor the war hero by naming the stadium in his memory.

Dr. Alam stated that the land acquired for the stadium originally belonged to the Muslim community, and local residents have been calling for this renaming for a long time. He said that fulfilling the demand would bring satisfaction to the minority community and strengthen their trust in the government. He also emphasized that this step would create a sense of pride among local people and highlight the contribution of Abdul Hamid, who sacrificed his life in the 1965 war against Pakistan.

The letter also noted that if the request is accepted, it will generate goodwill within the minority community and may influence the political climate ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Dr. Alam has also sent a copy of the appeal to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, praising his leadership in implementing state-wide development and prohibition measures that have already earned appreciation from the Muslim community.

The proposal highlights both historical recognition and community sentiment, as Abdul Hamid is remembered as one of India’s most decorated soldiers for his courage in the Khem Karan sector during the 1965 war.
