Bhiwandi: Efforts are underway to address the persistent traffic congestion in the city, which has worsened due to rapid population growth and street encroachments. Municipal Commissioner Anmol Sagar and MLA Rais Shaikh recently carried out a detailed survey of roads between Vanjarpatti Naka and Kalyan Naka, identifying key problem areas.
The survey was conducted with technical assistance from WRM, an organization specializing in traffic management in Mumbai. Municipal officials, traffic police, local leaders, and representatives of social groups also took part. During the inspection, increasing vehicle numbers, illegal parking, heavy vehicle entry, and unauthorized stalls were marked as the major issues.
MLA Rais Shaikh said the problem has persisted for years but can be resolved with honest efforts, modern technology, and coordinated planning. He stressed that better communication between municipal authorities and traffic police is necessary to ease the daily struggles of residents.
Commissioner Sagar noted that traffic congestion cannot be eliminated overnight. He explained that the survey helped identify specific points requiring immediate action, such as road widening, improved parking systems, and removal of encroachments. He added that upcoming measures will include stricter anti-encroachment drives and advanced traffic control tools.
Residents also shared their concerns during the exercise and expressed hope for a long-term solution. The focus now lies on whether the administration and elected representatives will design a sustainable plan to restore smooth and safe traffic movement in Bhiwandi.
