Centre Directs Schools to Screen Film on Modi’s Childhood

New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Education has instructed schools under the Central Board of Secondary Education, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, and Navodaya Vidyalayas Samiti to screen the film Chalo Jeete Hain between September 16 and October 2. The film, released in 2018, is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s childhood.

In a letter issued on September 11, the ministry said the film would encourage students to reflect on themes of service, responsibility, and moral reasoning. It added that screenings would support the government’s Prerana programme, an experiential learning initiative launched from the historic Vernacular School of Vadnagar in Gujarat, where Prime Minister Modi began his education. The programme includes storytelling, indigenous games, value-based sessions, and film screenings to help children engage with values and ethical dilemmas.

The ministry noted that Chalo Jeete Hain had already left a strong impression on participants of the programme, shaping their attitudes and actions. The film is being presented as a tool for social-emotional learning and critical thinking.

Separately, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that the film will be re-released in theatres nationwide from September 17 to October 2. PVR INOX Limited has also scheduled screenings from September 18 to 24. According to the ministry, the film portrays “Naru,” a boy influenced by Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy that true success lies in living for others. The re-release is intended to reach a wider audience with this message of selflessness and service.
