AMU Scholar Presents Paper on Social Exclusion in Carpet Industry at Int’l Conf.

Aligarh: Dr. Asfiya Karimi, Guest Teacher of Sociology at the Centre for Promotion of Educational and Cultural Advancement of Muslims of India (CEPECAMI), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), delivered a keynote address at the 1st International Conference on Persian Carpet held in Budapest, Hungary.

In her online address, Dr. Karimi spoke on “Innovation in the Carpet Industry of Bhadohi Leading towards the Phenomena of Social Exclusion.”

She highlighted how globalisation and technological advancements are reshaping the carpet industry from traditional practices to a centralised, technology-driven model.

Her research revealed the emergence of a “digital gap,” where large exporters with access to advanced technologies and online platforms are gaining a competitive edge over smaller exporters, who lack such resources. This imbalance, she explained, is marginalising small businesses and increasing their vulnerability to market exclusion.
