Unnao: Religious leaders in Unnao have urged the authorities to withdraw a case filed against a young man in Kanpur for writing “I Love Mohammed.” Maulana Nisar Ahmed Misbahi, the city Qazi, called for immediate action, emphasizing that expressing love and respect for the Prophet Muhammad is part of a Muslim’s faith and should not be treated as a criminal offense.
Maulana Misbahi clarified that the young man’s intentions were sincere and devotional, not meant to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments. He questioned why expressions of love for figures from other religions do not face objection, while expressing affection for Prophet Muhammad provokes legal action.
He stated that maintaining the case infringes on freedom of expression and religious belief, and warned that continuing it could create unnecessary tension in society. The Qazi urged district authorities and the state government to intervene and ensure justice, emphasizing that strict action should target those spreading hatred, not individuals demonstrating devotion.
The religious leader also warned that if the case is not withdrawn, protests could emerge across the state and country. His statement highlights the delicate balance between protecting religious sentiments and safeguarding individual rights in contemporary India.
