SRINAGAR: Senior Congress leader and MLA Dooru, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, has criticized the functioning of Jammu and Kashmir’s administration, saying people are suffering due to the lack of coordination between the Chief Minister and the Lieutenant Governor.
Mir stated that both are “acting in their own way” without considering the difficulties of the public. He stressed that no other state in India has experienced what Jammu and Kashmir went through on August 5, 2019, when it was downgraded from statehood to a Union Territory. According to him, the biggest pain for the people has been the loss of statehood.
He pointed out that the Government of India had promised elections first, followed by the restoration of statehood. “Elections did happen, but even after a year, there is no sign of statehood being returned,” Mir said. He noted that this delay has deepened the uncertainty among residents.
Highlighting the impact of the dual power structure, Mir said it has led to administrative confusion and public hardships. “On one side, there is the LG, and on the other, there is the CM. Both act independently, and the common man suffers,” he remarked.
Calling for clarity, the Congress leader urged the Union Government to take a decisive step. “If you want the LG, keep the LG. If you want the CM, keep the CM. But having both only increases the problems of the people,” he said.
