Kodangal Dargah Demolition Triggers Protests, Leaders Detained

Kodangal: Protests broke out in Vikarabad district after authorities demolished a graveyard and the Dargah of Mehboob Subhani as part of a road widening project. The demolition triggered anger among locals, with several young Muslim men staging demonstrations at the site. Police detained the protestors and moved them to different police stations to contain tensions.

A heavy security presence was deployed in Kodangal to prevent escalation. Among those taken into custody was AIMIM Vikarabad joint secretary Sultan Bahauddin Gulshan, who was shifted to Doma police station. District AIMIM president Abdul Hadi Sheri was also detained on his way to the site. He demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy rebuild the demolished dargah immediately, reminding that the chief minister himself had visited the shrine before the elections.

Majlis Bachao Tehreek spokesperson Amjedullah Khan was stopped near Chengamul and taken into preventive custody. He criticized the government for targeting Muslim religious sites and warned that such actions would cost the ruling party politically. Police officials later confirmed that Khan was released in the evening without any case being filed.

Residents expressed frustration over the silence of the Waqf Board. Khan said he contacted Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmathullah Hussaini, but the chairman denied knowledge of the demolition. The lack of official response has fueled discontent among the community, with calls for accountability and immediate reconstruction of the shrine.
