Vadodara: Communal tensions flared in Gujarat’s Vadodara City after an AI-generated post disrespecting Islam went viral. The post, which featured images of Makkah and Madinah accompanied by Hindu songs, sparked outrage among local Muslims, prompting hundreds of youths to protest in the Junigadhi area on Friday night.
Protestors demanded strict action against the creator of the post. Local residents described the content as highly offensive, stressing the sanctity of the Islamic holy sites and calling for accountability. “Makkah and Madinah are respected worldwide. Such acts of disrespect will not be tolerated,” a resident said.
Police quickly intervened to prevent escalation, deploying convoys and barricades to manage the crowd. About 50 individuals linked to alleged stone-pelting during the protests were detained by the Crime Branch for questioning. Separate units of local police and the Crime Branch worked to calm the situation and restore order.
Authorities registered complaints against those involved in rioting and took legal action on the viral post. Additional security measures were implemented across the city to maintain peace. Officials confirmed that the situation is under control, though police continue to patrol sensitive areas.
The unrest highlights the challenges posed by viral content in a diverse society and underscores the importance of swift law enforcement response to prevent communal tensions from escalating. Police have urged citizens to report offensive material and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
