Srinagar: Kashmiri scholars have made a notable mark in the Stanford University Global Top Scientists Rankings 2025. At least 30 researchers from the region, across multiple institutions, have been recognised for their impactful contributions to science and academia.
The University of Kashmir leads with 14 faculty members on the list, including Adil Gani, Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Idrees Ahmad Wani, and Farooq Ahmad Masoodi. Dr. Adil Gani earned a rare distinction in the career-long impact category, placing in the top one per cent of scientists worldwide.
NIT Srinagar contributed nine names, including Prof. M.F. Wani, Prof. M.A. Shah, Dr. Neeraj Gupta, and Dr. Sandeep Samantaray, highlighting the institute’s growing research influence. The Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora, added six researchers such as Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo and Dr. Basharat Nabi Dar.
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-K) also features five faculty members, underlining the strength of agricultural and life sciences research in the region. Scholars from Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, including Prof. Parvaiz A. Koul and Prof. M.S. Khuroo, have also been acknowledged in previous global rankings for contributions in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
The achievements extend to diaspora-linked Kashmiri researchers like Dr. Faheem Hyder Pottoo, who has been recognised internationally in pharmacology. Collectively, these accomplishments demonstrate Kashmir’s growing presence in global research, spanning disciplines from earth sciences, mathematics, and nanoscience to medicine, agriculture, and food technology. Experts say this reflects a rising trend of high-impact research and global recognition for Kashmiri academics.
