Bhilwara: A 32-year-old Muslim man, Sheru Susadiya, from Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh, was brutally lynched in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district on September 16, allegedly by a mob accusing him of cattle smuggling. Susadiya and his friend Mohsin Dol had purchased a bull from the Lambiya fair and were returning home late at night when a group on a silver camper and motorcycles intercepted them.
The attackers pulled both men out of their pickup truck, assaulted them with iron rods and fists, and accused them of slaughtering cows. Despite their repeated claims of innocence, the mob continued the assault. Mohsin managed to flee, while Susadiya was severely beaten, robbed of Rs 36,000, and left critically injured.
Police confirmed that five individuals, including Deva Gurjar, Kunal Malpura, Pradeep Rajpurohit, and Nitesh Saini, have been arrested. Susadiya’s cousin, Manzoor Pemla, reported that one of the accused threatened the family over the phone, demanding Rs 50,000 for Sheru’s safety.
Susadiya was admitted to Bhilwara hospital and later referred to Jaipur for neurosurgical treatment. He succumbed to his injuries after three days. Authorities have registered cases under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including attempted murder, grievous hurt, wrongful restraint, extortion, and unlawful assembly. A separate investigation into cattle smuggling is ongoing.
The incident has raised alarm over mob violence targeting minorities in the region. Sheru leaves behind his wife and two young children. Police have assured strict investigation and continued pursuit of all remaining accused.
