Owaisi Launches Nyay Yatra in Seemanchal Ahead of Bihar Elections

Bihar: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has ramped up preparations for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections after its request to join the INDIA bloc, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal, went unanswered. Party chief Asaduddin Owaisi will lead a five-day Nyay Yatra across the Seemanchal belt from September 23 to 27.

During the Yatra, Owaisi will hold over 24 public meetings in Kishanganj, Araria, Katihar, and Purnea, districts with a significant Muslim population. The campaign will focus on issues such as backwardness, illiteracy, unemployment, and poverty in the region. A senior AIMIM leader said the party is exploring new alliances while maintaining distance from both the NDA and the INDIA bloc.

AIMIM aims to consolidate its base in the five constituencies it won in 2020, despite the defection of four MLAs to the RJD in 2022. State president Akhtarul Iman accused the RJD of engineering the split and stressed that AIMIM is not the “B team” of the BJP as alleged by rivals.

The party has also begun constituency-level meetings to mobilize support. In a recent session in Munger, district president Mohammad Shahid Hussain accused the RJD and Congress of betraying Muslim voters by seeking their support without offering tickets.

Political observers note that Seemanchal remains a key region for AIMIM, where Muslims constitute 40-70% of the population across 24 constituencies. Analysts suggest AIMIM may look to ally with smaller, disgruntled parties, although major players like Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party intend to contest independently.
