Lucknow – The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced a nationwide bandh on October 3 to protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025. The protest will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with shops, offices, and business establishments asked to remain closed during this period, except for hospitals and essential services.
The AIMPLB said the bandh is part of its Save Waqf, Save Constitution campaign. Board leaders emphasized that the action will be peaceful and is not aimed at any community. Instead, it is intended to highlight concerns over the new Waqf legislation, which they argue weakens the autonomy of Waqf institutions.
Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, president of the AIMPLB, urged khateebs across the country to use the upcoming Friday sermons to raise awareness about the Act and encourage full participation from the community. He stressed the importance of collective action to resist what the board views as harmful changes to the Waqf Act.
The bandh is the latest in a series of protests led by the AIMPLB since the introduction of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025. The board and its supporters argue that the law undermines constitutional safeguards and poses a threat to the independent functioning of Waqf institutions, which manage community assets across India.
