Kota: Advocate Ansar Indori has been honored with the prestigious Change Maker Award, joining the list of 100 individuals selected from across India for their significant social impact.
According to Siraj Ahmed Ansari, regional president of the Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP), the award is presented annually to 100 personalities who bring change in fields such as education, healthcare, finance, social service, and human rights. The selection process involves multiple stages and is finalized by a jury comprising reputed professionals from across the country.
Ansar Indori received the award for his outstanding contribution to the protection of marginalized communities and human rights. The award ceremony will be held in Hyderabad. The purpose of this recognition is to encourage efforts toward safeguarding human rights and to highlight such initiatives at a national level.
Expressing happiness over his selection, Indori stated that such awards do not only motivate human rights defenders but also raise awareness in society about the importance of protecting rights. He pledged to continue his work with dedication.
In 2019, when UAPA was imposed on 200 Muslims in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, Indori led a fact-finding team, held a press conference, and released a report. Following the investigation, the police withdrew the UAPA charges.
He, along with senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, secured bail from the Supreme Court for a woman from Khandwa who had been arrested by Odisha Police under UAPA, without charging any legal fees.
Indori filed a complaint with the NHRC regarding police atrocities against an Adivasi woman in Chhattisgarh. The commission, after investigation, ordered compensation for the victim.
He has consistently raised issues of injustice against Dalits, Adivasis, and Muslims at constitutional platforms. He provides free legal support in custodial death cases and led a citizens’ fact-finding team comprising students, journalists, and lawyers into the Delhi riots. Indori has organized multiple legal awareness camps and human rights workshops across India, training activists and educating people about their rights. He has actively campaigned for the release of political prisoners, highlighting violations of due process and abuse of law.
The Association of Muslim Professionals emphasized that Indori’s tireless efforts in defending constitutional rights, empowering vulnerable communities, and challenging unlawful state actions made him a deserving recipient of the Change Maker Award. His selection among the 100 change-makers of India stands as a national acknowledgment of his leadership in human rights advocacy.
