Chandrashekhar Azad Slams UP Government Over Bareilly Lathicharge, Calls for Change in 2027

Moradabad: Chandrashekhar Azad, Member of Parliament and National President of Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), launched a sharp attack on the Uttar Pradesh government during a convention of intellectuals held on Delhi Road. He said farmers in the state are suffering, law and order has collapsed, and a dual system of governance is being imposed on Dalits, Muslims, and backward communities.

Azad condemned the Bareilly lathicharge as unjust and accused the government of making decisions on a religious basis. He said the “I Love Mohammad” controversy was deliberately created to target minorities. According to him, peaceful demonstrators in Bareilly were beaten and jailed under government orders, while in Fatehpur, authorities remained silent on similar issues.

He questioned how two laws can operate within one state. Azad argued that the government should have engaged in dialogue with protestors instead of using force, adding that the aim was to intimidate weaker sections of society. He declared that Uttar Pradesh has descended into a state of jungle raj.

Azad urged his supporters to unite and resist oppression, warning that if persecution continues, state prisons will not be enough. He made a call from the stage for his party workers to pledge that they would end the government’s arrogance in the 2027 Assembly elections. He affirmed that his party is moving forward with the resolve of bringing change.

Raising the issue of electronic voting machines, Azad demanded that elections be conducted using ballot papers. He argued that when Vice Presidential and Rajya Sabha elections are held on paper ballots, there is no reason why Lok Sabha and Assembly polls should not follow the same system.
